Baby Bear Analytics
and Me...
Hi, I'm Mark...
I love solving complex problems.
I believe in constant improvement. In making our lives better. In progress.
I'm optimistic that the best is yet to come, and I'm working to help make that happen.
I aim to create solutions that delight you and add so much value that you find yourself telling friends and colleagues without even thinking. The kind of workflow improvements that make you want to share them at a conference because it would feel unfair not to. That when you face a new challenge, you think first of me and if it would be something I could help you with.
I'm building products and consulting on solutions that matter to you.
I'm a mechanical engineer turned MBA. For over a decade I've helped the energy industry's largest companies wrestle with complex scenarios.
Ten of those years were with Enersight, helping clients with field development planning, budgeting and integrated activity planning: three as a consultant, then seven managing the product and being the go-to person for the hardest problems. Recently, I've been out on my own, building Bear Decisions and talking to planning teams about what they need.
So I've seen planning from both sides: building the plan, and building the tool underneath it.
Consulting
Today I help oil and gas planning teams in three ways:
- Capacity: I join your team for a project, a planning cycle or an ongoing workload.
- Capability: I make your models, processes and tools faster and better.
- Rethinking: I help you redo how a major decision gets made, end to end.
If you have a new challenge you might want help with, I'd love to chat with you. I'm happy to meet, find out about your world and the outcomes that would define success for you, and do that before we do any paperwork.
I'm based in Brisbane, happy to work on-site, and can travel when the work needs it.
We've tolerated bad planning processes for way too long.
A timely, good enough answer beats a slow, precise one.
Bear Decisions
Right now on the product side, I'm starting with the challenges of decision-making: helping people understand uncertainty, see the range of possible outcomes, consider incremental options and their effects, and gain deeper insight into their plans and choices. What comes next will grow from there.
Functionality is a given. How it feels to use matters just as much, so I design with you, the user, at the centre: tools that bring simplicity and order, even in the face of complexity. If I fall short, I want to know so that I can keep improving.
I believe trust is earned. If you're trying one of my products, you've risked your time and energy, and I want to honour that. So my products always offer a free trial, minimal or zero setup, and immediate value before you ever pay a cent.
As a solopreneur, I don't carry big-company overhead, so I can chase problems they overlook as too niche or too risky. The tech giants do great work, and if you grow big enough to switch to them, that's a success story and I'll be cheering you on. If you're smaller, on a tighter budget, or just want something more nimble, I hope you'll consider what I've built.
